Pittsburgh's 250th Birthday

It was Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The fountain at the point was pink and looking good!

In honor of the DAR Davis girls, I took this picture at the point museum.

And you gotta love this guy we met on the North Shore.

Go Steelers!

This is where all our friends had their boats - Miss Feels Good too stayed home and we got a room at the Sheraton Station Square right behind the docks.

It was neat as it became dark. What a beautiful city!

In all of her glory!

It was quite a birthday party!

There were wonderful fireworks.

They shot them off of the tops of buildings.

And they shot them from all three of the rivers so you could see them in three D - they had a water fall off the bridges - they had them shooting from the sidewalks around the point too. It was meant to look like a birthday cake with candles.

They went on for 45 minutes ~

It was like a constant grand finale!

Doesn't this look like it is coming from the stack of the Majestic?

Here we are standing in front of the Delta Queen as she was docked at Washington's Landing preparing for the cruise we did a couple of years ago to Cincinnati for the Tall Stacks Festival. They say that she may be taking her final trip as they want to stop sailing her because she is an old wooden boat and there are concerns of safety issues. I hope that isn't so. She is such a beautiful ship. I'd love to do it again some day.

The Strip District

One of our favorite ways to spend a day is at Pittsburgh's Strip District. No no you and everyone else leaves their clothes on..... it's the other kind of strip. Like a strip of fun things to do and see all in a row. There are some real land marks here.

Take for instance Mike Feinberg Co. a.k.a. "The Party King". You can find any kind of party accessory known to man here. It's fun just to go in and look around. And speaking of looking around ~ how about what there is to look at in that upstairs window! Oh baby ~ oh baby!

Here's why we tuck a cooler in the car before we leave home. Wholey's has the freshest fish and the largest assortment ever! ~ Ok, maybe next to Pike's Market in Seattle. But they don't throw fish here, they save that talent for the west coast fish guys who ship it to us here inland on the east coast. My favorite find is Chilean Sea Bass. When they have that, I am a very happy girl.

This is me taking a picture of my Sea Bass being specially cut just for me.

And look, Almond Butter ~ yummmmm....

Let's just say you want something different...... here ya go then.......

Hungry? This is the original Primanti Brothers. The home of the "Pittsburgh Sandwich".

This gal could whip out a passel of them and each one perfect. Meat, cheese, fries and slaw. That's it baby, that's it! Served on Mancini bread made down the street of course.

I can't go to the Strip District without thinking about Daddy. When I was a kid I thought he knew everybody. He worked the wholesale business right in the heart of things in Pittsburgh and when we would go downtown to the orthodontist in the now torn down Jenkins Arcade building, afterwards we would all go to the fabric store here and Mom would sift through the remnants and they would pick up odds and ends of bargains and it always seemed so special to me. I love having things - places like this in my life.

Somehow I just got a hankering for Smucker's jelly.

Regatta 2008 ~ You just gotta ~

We gotta Regatta you know!

It began with a flag ceremony.

The fans came ~

These folks were set ~

They had their cooler, chairs, hats???
There were fast boats!!!!!!!!!
There were ski boats!

There were old boats!

Terry was lovin' it!

There were silly boats!

This tow boat was my favorite from the "Anything that floats"

There were "What the heck is that?" boats ~ yes it is a floating quad ~

And then there were lighted boats and that means it's coming to an end...

We had another great Regatta weekend. For us some things never get old.
Good friends, good food, good fun.

What guys do!

So one morning us girls were hangin' around in the sun and realized it had been some time since we saw our guys around. We began to wonder where they might be so we went for a walk. And here's what we found. Jack had his hatch open and they were all sitting there solving a problem with the engine. Nobody was actually turning wrench, but that boat was getting fixed! I believe this is known as the thinking stage!

We have big news in our little town of Beaver!

Barack Obama began his campaign rally right here in Beaver!!!

How cool is that? What an honor for our town. And I watched it all unfold right out my window of the Bank all day.
~ They came and took all the mailboxes ~
~ The fences were put up ~
~ The flags were hung ~
~ The sharp shooters were positioned on top of the Bank ~
~ The crowd gathered ~
~ And then there he was ~
He brought his wife and the Bidens along and lots and lots of Secret Service people who found the crowd well behaved and very eager to hear his message. There were lots of cheers and and flags flying and people clapping and whistling during his talk. I had chicken skin just to think that it was all happening here. The gazebo looked great. It felt so American.

I am looking forward to election day!

Summer Days ~

Balloon Quest ~ ~
Hmmm, that sounded interesting in the "Things to Do" section of the newspaper. So off we went to see what it was.

Terry won me a gold fish by tossing a ping pong ball into one of those little bowls.
I decided to give it to a little boy who really wanted one and just didn't have Terry's incredible skills at carnival games.

The balloons were pretty cool.
When they were all lit up after dark it was real cool.
My photo does not do justice.......

Summer time ~ ah, the joys of playing with my neighbors after work. This evening we were gathering frogs

We are in the middle of July already. Can you believe it? It has been a good Summer thus far, I must say ~
